Harbor Island Redevelopment Taking Shape

There are now six bidders looking to redevelop Harbor Island, which is directly across from San Diego’s Lindbergh Field airport.

The San Diego Unified Port District will select and approve a plan during the second week of January. The submitted proposals  include a $2-billion aquarium, and a dinner theater that concentrates on local history.

Tripp Development has very big plans for the 50-acre site. Rick Tripp, principal for the company, said he would like to build a 700,000-square-foot aquarium, as well as three hotels and a vertical crop system that would grow plant life and total two million square feet.

Another notable bidder is local firm OliverMcMillan.
