Harbor Bridge Demolition Leading to New Potential Plans

Work on Corpus Christi’s new Harbor Bridge has begun. Demolition of the current bridge is set to take place by 2022-2023. The question that is coming up is what will happen to the 85 acres remaining after the old bridge goes away.

Greg Perkes, a Corpus Christi attorney who owns the development firm PerkesWorks!, is partnering with several companies on a proposal to develop the acreage, that is bounded by North Mesquite, Interstate 37, North and West Broadway, Belden, North Tancahua, Resaca and the city’s barge dock. The result of that deliberation is a pedestrian-friendly district to be known as SEAtown.

Though still in the very preliminary planning states, SEAtown would offer arts, culture and entertainment. The developer must, however, conduct an initial $100,000 study to determine the project’s feasibility.
