Hanover Republic Square OK’d for Density Bonus Program

The Austin Design Commission unanimously voted to recommend the 310-unit Hanover Republic Square for the city’s Downtown Density Bonus Program. The density bonus request is headed to Austin’s Planning and Zoning Department for approval. The program, established in 2014, focuses on formation of a pedestrian-friendly downtown area, along with development of affordable housing.

The site at Fifth and Lavaca Streets is occupied by a couple of closed bars and the Roosevelt Room cocktail lounge, which will remain when Houston-based Hanover Co. begins construction on the project. Depending on the approval process, construction could begin on the building in Q4 2019. Solomon Cordwell Buenz is the architect.

Located at 305 W. Fifth St., the site is north of the under-construction Hotel Zaza, and will include ground-level restaurant and retail space.
