H-E-B to Open in Murphy

H-E-B grocery stores are not just built for big city folks. A new H-E-B grocery store is being built in Murphy at FM 544 and McCreary Road. The store, which is located just outside of Plano and Richardson, is slated to open in 2026 and employ 600 people. Murphy has just over 21,000 residents. Twenty years ago the town only had 3,000.

The newest of the chain’s 470 stores will consist of a 122,000-square-foot building that will house not only its grocery offerings but also a deli with a cheese and charcuterie island, a drive-thru pharmacy, True Texas Barbecue and an in-house sushi chef.

H-E-B opened its first store in 1905 and now has four brands: H-E-B, La Tienda, H-E-B Plus, a superstore option and Joe V’s Smart Shop, a budget option. The San Antonio-based company has revenue approaching $50 billion a year and is rated as the 19th largest retailer in the country.
