HEB testing landfill site for future Buda store

H-E-B Rehabs Landfill, to Build Expanded Buda Store

After taking away nearly 20 feet of dirt from a Buda landfill, grocery giant H-E-B has been greenlit to build an expanded 135,000 square foot store. The town granted the chain a $20 million incentive package to support H-E-B’s remediation efforts. The latest testing showed no contamination sources, so the deal is on.

The Austin Business Journal reports that the grocer is mandated by the incentives deal to invest at least $70 million in the project, create 50 full-time equivalent jobs within one year of opening, and source construction materials locally.

The new store will include a drive-thru True Texas BBQ restaurant, pharmacy and garden center. Construction on the site is expected to ramp up this year, and the company is said to have started demolishing existing buildings on site.
