H-E-B Building First Dallas Store

H-E-B has over a dozen grocery stores around Dallas, but none in the incorporated limits of the town. It has been expanding aggressively in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with new stores under construction in Forney, Murphy and Bedford/Euless.

The Dallas Business Journal reports that the Dallas City Council recently voted in favor of new zoning for a site at the southeast corner of I-635 and Hillcrest Road, which will allow the company to build its first Dallas store. Councilmembers bemoaned the fact that much of Dallas was a grocery store desert.

The company seeks to develop a 127,000-square-foot store on the property, currently home to some partially occupied but aging office buildings. H-E-B purchased the roughly 10-acre site earlier this year. The new store will bring 800 new jobs and an estimated $24 million in tax revenue to Dallas over the next five years.

H-E-B operates more than 440 stores in Texas and Mexico.
