Groundbreaking Takes Place for Virginia Mixed Use
Developer EDENS officially broke ground on 530 First Street, a retail and residential redevelopment in Alexandria, VA’s Old Town. Actual construction on the project will commence in spring 2017, and will include 50,000 square feet of community centered space, and a 232-unit rental residence, which will be developed by Gables Residential. The LEED-certified center will also include an enhanced streetscape, the addition of a Capital Bikeshare station, and onsite public art.
The development was once the site of a Giant-brand grocery store, and a liquor store. Giant shuttered the 18,000-square-foot store in February 2015. It was one of the smallest and oldest stores in the chain. The status of the Virginia ABC liquor store is unknown.
