Groundbreaking Takes Place for $1.7B Ethane Cracker

Bayport Polymers LLC hosted the official groundbreaking ceremony for construction of a $1.7-billion ethane cracker at the Total Port Arthur Refinery in Port Arthur, TX. Bayport Polymers is a joint venture of Total S.A. and Novealis Holdings LLC. Novealis Holdings, itself is a joint venture of Borealis AG and Nova Chemicals Inc.

The plant, which is being built alongside the existing Total/BASF steam cracker, is expected to start up in 2020. Approximately 1,500 jobs will be created during the peak engineering and construction activity. Once fully operational, the cracker will require approximately 60 full-time jobs.

The recently formed Bay-Pol joint venture is handling construction. Bay-Pol is also a joint venture between Total and Novealis Holdings.
