Greenpoint Hospital Looking for Affordable Developers
City officials are looking for proposals to redevelop a City-owned site on the former Greenpoint Hospital campus — closed since 1982 in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Redevelopment could create 300-to-600 new affordable apartments and community spaces. Prospective applicants should include a new, 200-bed shelter to replace the Barbara S. Kleiman Residence that now operates on the site. Development teams should also have experience in historic preservation, adaptive reuse, shelter operations, and community development.
“Through Housing New York, we are looking to transform our remaining public sites into dynamic affordable housing developments that serve the broader needs of the community,” said Maria Torres-Springer, commissioner of the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD).
The 3.4-acre site at 288 Jackson St. includes three existing buildings, a sewer easement and vacant land, and is eligible to be on the National Register of Historic Places.
