A green fuels producer is considering Point Comfort, between Corpus Christi and Galveston on the Gulf Coast, for a factory. Should it decide on the location, Synergen Green Energy expects to spend over $160 million in construction costs. When finished, the plant would support 100 jobs and is estimated to have an economic impact of almost $1 billion.

The San Antonio Business Journal reports the company wants to produce green ammonia, a low-carbon fuel often used as a fertilizer. The company expects the plant to produce about 219,000 metric tons of green ammonia each year when the plant comes online. The plant is expected to start operations in 2028.

The company has applied for incentives through the state’s Jobs, Energy, Technology and Innovation which gives companies a 10-year school district tax break.

The project is designed to support the global transition toward low‑carbon fuels by utilizing renewable electricity, electrolysis, and proven ammonia synthesis technology to produce zero‑carbon ammonia for domestic and international markets.
