Great Park $90M Facility will be Home to USA Water Polo

Groundbreaking for Phase I of the new 1,300-acre Great Park complex in Irvine, CA could begin within the next two months, and it will include a $90 million aquatic facility that will become the home of the USA Water Polo team. The Orange County register reports the City Council overwhelmingly approved the three-pool facility ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics.

Under the partnership agreement, USA Water Polo will pay $12 million toward the construction of the venue and get use of its offices, classroom and lockers. The team’s use of the facility would be capped at about 25% of its operating hours, and the women’s national team will no longer have to share space at Long Beach City College.

The estimated $720 million Phase I development of the Great Park, located at the former Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, is likely to include botanical gardens, a 14,000-seat amphitheater and the aquatic facility.
