Great American Eclipse? There Are Apps for That

With the August 21 solar eclipse almost upon us, it’s no wonder that people all across the U.S. are preparing for this celestial event—in the best way we know how, with smartphone apps. There are a bunch of apps ranging from the Smithsonian Institute to McGlaun’s eclipse2017.org available for iPhones and Androids, that provide users with a unique eclipse experience.

These programs give you access to the best viewing spots, the trajectory of the eclipse, live-streamed telescope views, and more. They are perfect for people of all levels, from novices to most advanced celestial viewers!

By combining the power of social media and people’s passion for the Great American Eclipse, scientists, like Bill O’Neil of the San Jose Astronomical Association, predict that this event will “get a lot of people thinking outside of the box,” and “raise interest regarding science in general.”

Find out which Eclipse apps are best here.
