Governor Healey Announces Lowell Economic Development
Governor Maura T. Healey announced a milestone in the Lowell Innovation Network Corridor (LINC) project, bringing new housing, economic development, technology jobs, and workforce development to downtown Lowell. Draper Laboratory will anchor the project, facilitated by the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML), the UMass Building Authority (UMBA), and the City of Lowell.
The project is expected to generate over $3.7 billion in economic activity and create 2,000 permanent jobs, along with 1,300 construction jobs and nearly 500 units of new housing. The cornerstone will be a new research building on UMass Lowell’s East Campus, housing Draper’s microelectronics division and creating hundreds of new jobs.
The Healey-Driscoll administration, along with partners, has committed to supporting the project, with final terms under development. Additional organizations are expected to announce expansions into university and city facilities through the LINC project in the coming months.
