Government Agency Snags Space at Central Square
Houston’s Housing and Development department is relocating operations to Central Square, a 280,000-square-foot Class A office building in the metro’s Midtown neighborhood. The agency, which is developing Hurricane Harvey recovery programs, leased 64,000 square feet in the building, located at 2100 Travis St. The department will relocate from its current 42,260-square-foot digs at 601 Sawyer St. in early 2019.
Keith Bynam, the department’s Deputy Director, told the Houston Business Journal that the original intent was to downsize in the new space. That was before Harvey, however. As part of the agreement, the agency will take an entire floor at Central Square for disaster recovery.
Housing and Development inked a 10-year deal in Central Square with landlord Claremont Property Co. Claremont acquired the then-vacant asset in 2014, and embarked on a multimillion-dollar property renovation. The property is 47% occupied.
