Gotham Partners with Megachurch on East New York MXU

Christian Cultural Center, New York’s largest house of worship with 45,000 members, has formed a partnership with the Gotham Organization to transform CCC’s 10-acre East New York campus into a mixed-income community. The proposed mixed-use development will supplement the existing church facility with 2,100 new affordable residential units, in addition to retail and a performing arts center.

“Gotham has a long history working with community organizations and city government to provide much-needed housing and other community amenities,” said Gotham’s Bryan Kelly. “We look forward to working with CCC to realize their vision for the future of East New York, and look forward to working closely with residents to further enhance its programming.”

Rev. A. R. Bernard, who leads the megachurch, said the goal is to make the site “a model for sustainable urban development.” The project’s master plan is by architect Vishaan Chakrabarti and his Practice for Architecture and Urbanism.
