Google’s Latest Deal Boosts San Jose Acquisitions to Nearly $400M

Though Google’s latest property acquisition in downtown San Jose isn’t a blockbuster in terms of dollar value, the addition is another step towards its vision of creating a transit village. Public records show the tech titan paid $2.7 million for a site at 56 S. Autumn St. currently housing a glass products supplier.

The latest addition brings the total Google and affiliated entities has spent buying properties to $386.8 million over a nearly three-year span, according to research compiled by the Mercury-News. Development ally, Trammell Crow Company, as well as TC Agoge Associates, have been involved in acquisitions, too.

The pick-up is near Google’s proposed transit-oriented development in downtown encompassing a mix of office, residential, retail, restaurant and open space. The area near the train station and the SAP Center is envisioned to house 25,000 workers, including up to 20,000 Google employees.
