Google Unveils New Renderings of Thompson Center Revamp
Google has unveiled new renderings of the lower level of the Thompson Center, which is undergoing a $280 million renovation project. Google will move its headquarters into the building upon completion.
The tech giant purchased the building in 2022 and announced plans to convert it into a large office and working space. A rendering of the building’s atrium shows a reimagined space with abundant daylight, indoor greenery and upper-floor offices with open views.
The renovation design is being handled by Jahn, the architecture firm founded by the building’s original architect, Helmut Jahn, and now led by his son Evan Jahn. Construction began in May on the James R. Thompson Center located at 100 W. Randolph, with planned upgrades including replacing the building’s facade and internal spaces, installing a triple-pane glass exterior, and improving the heating and cooling systems.
