Google Searches for Finance Hub, Finds Chicago
Google has selected Chicago as its new hub for finance, with plans to add hundreds of jobs locally over the next two years. The announcement comes a few days after Google announced plans to invest $13 billion in offices and data centers across the U.S.
It’s not clear whether Google’s expanded Chicago presence will mean more office space. The company increased its existing Fulton Market footprint by 132,000 square feet last fall.
“We looked at a lot of cities to find the right home for our new team, and decided that Chicago’s culture, diversity and strong emphasis on community makes it a perfect fit for Google,” said Google’s Karen Sauder.
Tech remains Chicago’s fastest-growing industry, employing more than 143,000 people. “From major companies like Google to rapidly growing start-ups, Chicago’s tech economy is booming and creating new jobs for our unparalleled talent pool,” said World Business Chicago’s Andrea Zopp.
