Google Puts 1.4M SF on Sublease Market in Silicon Valley

Google LLC, which paused plans for a huge campus in downtown San Jose earlier this year, is now seeking to sublease 1.4 million square feet of office space in Silicon Valley, reported the San Francisco Business Times. The sublease listings cover seven buildings in Mountain View and in Sunnyvale. Cushman & Wakefield, Newmark and CBRE are marketing the properties.

“As we work to ensure that our real estate investments match the needs of our hybrid workforce, we’re ending leases for a number of unoccupied spaces,” a Google representative told the Business Times. “We remain committed to our longstanding presence in the Bay Area and investing in the local community.”

While sizable, the sublease space represents a small portion of Google’s Bay Area real estate. Its total footprint spans 27 million square feet in Silicon Valley, 2.5 million square feet along the Peninsula and 1.6 million square feet in San Francisco.
