Google Pursuing Phase II of $1B Mesa Datacenter Complex

Google is following through on its original plans to build a $1 billion data center complex in Mesa. Plans go back as far as 2019. The first phase, approximately 250,000 square feet, started construction last summer. Phase I is expected to be completed sometime next year.

Google representatives are soon expected in front of the town’s planning agency to review Phase II plans. Phase II is expected to see Google build 280,000 square feet more. The plans also include facilities to house its electrical components and office space. The site takes up 185 acres near the northwest corner of Sossaman and Elliot roads. The facility will be powered by 400MW of power which will come from solar and wind farms in the state. Delivery is slated for 2029.

The deal includes a property tax break of $16 million over 25 years. To get the maximum tax break, Google must spend $ 1 billion on capital expenditures. Google operations would contribute some $61 million to city tax coffers over the time of the deal.
