Google Proposes Hangar 1 Restoration, Eyed as Possible R&D Facility
Google’s Planetary Ventures is proposing to restore and clean up toxic materials at Hangar 1 in Mountain View. The massive 200-foot-high hangar is an iconic reminder of a bygone era when giant dirigibles were housed at the site.
The restoration could total upwards of $156.8 million for the familiar structure located at NASA Research Park and visible to motorists traveling along U.S. 101. The hangar at the former Naval Air Station Moffett Field is envisioned to be used for a variety of tech-related purposes.
That includes research and development activities, testing, light assembly and fabrication, office space, and public access for events. The hangar, which has an eight-acre floor, was built in 1932. It once housed the dirigible U.S.S. Macon and was largest naval air transport base on the West Coast.
Connect Direct-to-Consumer is coming up next month at San Jose’s Santana Row. Get more information and register for the September 26th event on this link.
