Google and Facebook Eye Bigger Presence in the Loop

With or without Amazon’s HQ2, the city’s tech sector office footprint is about to get bigger. Google and Facebook are reportedly planning major leases within the Loop, building on the two tenants’ already sizable presence here.

Google is looking at adding 100,000 square feet in the Fulton Market District, where it has leased about 350,000 square feet since 2014. Facebook, which in May signed on for the entire 750,000-square-foot expanse of The John Buck Company’s Transbay Tower in San Francisco, reportedly now has plans for more than 200,000 square feet at a new John Buck property in Chicago, the CNA Center (pictured) at 151 N. Franklin St.

It’s not clear whether a Facebook lease at the CNA Center would supplement or replace the social media giant’s existing space at 191 N. Wacker Dr. Facebook expanded its 191 N. Wacker space to more than 100,000 square feet last fall.
