Good News for Houston: Job Growth Forecast to Pick Up

Houston’s job growth forecast is for more in 2018, according to a report released by the Greater Houston Partnership. The GHP calls for approximately 45,500 new jobs to be added in the coming year, driven primarily by “the U.S. and global economies and Houston’s links to them.” And, while the energy sector isn’t going to contribute much to the job growth, it won’t detract from it, either.

The report noted that the U.S. GDP is anticipated to grow 2.4% in 2018, with U.S. job creation averaging approximately 200,000 per month, thus “sustaining demand for what Houston produces.” The GHP believes job growth will take place in 14 sectors, including oil field services, manufacturing, retail trade, finance and insurance, real estate, health care and government. Construction and information are the two sectors anticipated to lose jobs.
