GM Plans $1B Investment in U.S. Plants
General Motors Co. announced it will invest $1 billion in its U.S. factories this year, and will also relocate some parts production from Mexico to the United States. The investments are in addition to the $2.9 billion the automaker announced last year. GM said the investment would create or retain 1,500 jobs.
GM also indicated it will start bringing axle production for its next generation of full-size pickup trucks to operations in Michigan. The relocation will create 450 jobs in the United States.
The automaker announced in 2014 that it would be investing $5 billion in Mexico, and doubling production capacity by 2018. GM indicated it had no plans to cancel the Mexican investments, despite pressure from President-elect Donald Trump.
