Glendale Hoping Super Bowl Ignites Commercial Growth
While the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona seats 63,000 fans, a typical Super Bowl weekend brings in many times that, due to the number of side shows that come with the game. And those people have to have someplace to stay and something to do. The City of Glendale is hoping to offer the visitors a great time, but also hopes to use the weekend as a way to spark interest in development.
Surrounding the city’s sports and entertainment hub, plans for new industrial parks, a sports complex and a mixed-use project around the spring training ballpark and medical facilities are all progressing. Overall, Glendale’s sports and entertainment district is about three square miles, including hundreds of acres left to be developed, and could double in size at full build out based on density. The towns Mayor, Kevin Phelps is thinking big, “We continue to get interest in experiential projects within the district, and I think long-term, I don’t think it’s unrealistic to say we could have three or four or five theme parks within this district.”
