Giant Food Plans $175M Spend on Expansion, Amenities

Regional grocery chain Giant Food, which operates 164 supermarkets in the greater Washington, D.C. region, will make a $175-million capital investment into expansion and improvement over the next two years. The investment will include one new store and 24 store remodels.

The new location will be in Fairfax Circle, VA. Giant opened two new stores in Herndon, VA (pictured) and Alexandria, VA last month. The chain previously announced a new location in Olney, MD for spring 2019.

In addition, Giant will also be remodeling 24 store locations to feature new amenities. The amenities include enhanced perishable, produce, beer, wine and spirits offerings; full-service florists; expanded natural and organic departments; hot Asian food bars, fresh-squeezed juice bars, enhanced check-out zones; and full-service pharmacies.

“As the region’s leading grocer, this announcement is part of our long-term commitment to deliver a consistently exceptional experience for our shoppers,” said Gordon Reid, president of Giant.
