Getting the Lead Out at $10K Per Unit

If you own an apartment building in Brooklyn, Queens or the Bronx that was built before 1960, New York City will help you get the lead out. Specifically, the City is handing out grants to help apartment building owners remove poisonous, old lead paint in unit interiors.

The City’s Primary Prevention Program will pay grants averaging $10,000 per apartment to help get rid of it. The money comes from a federal program targeting housing occupied by low-income families in boroughs where tests have shown there are large numbers of children with high levels of lead in their blood.

“Truly an effective and efficient way to reduce lead in your property, maintain your tenants’ safety, while increasing the viability of your property,” said Consolato ‘Joe’ Cicciu of Belmont-Arthur Avenue Local Development Corporation in the Bronx, which is helping implement the program. “Our counselors will assist you every step of the way.”
