Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center Planned

Georgia Technology Authority is moving forward on a new $50-million Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center in Augusta, GA. Gensler has been selected to design the 159,000-square-foot facility, and expects to deliver construction plans within the next few months.

The state-owned project is located on Augusta University’s Riverfront Campus, and is slated to break ground in early June. The official opening date is set for July 10, 2018.

In order to meet that “aggressive” timeline, the development team will tap into Gensler’s experience designing facilities for intelligence agencies. A “prototype,” featuring secure compartmented information facilities, helps cut the design time by nearly half.

The public areas on lower floors of the facility will encourage interaction, while secure areas for agency and defense-related occupiers are located on upper floors. The building’s core will be expanded, and play a key function in the facility’s security and armor.
