General Dynamics chooses Mesquite for artillery casing plant

General Dynamics Building Artillery Shell Casing Plant in Mesquite

Artillery shells are in high demand of late. One of the leading providers of artillery ordnance, General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems Inc. (GD) has picked a building at the Mesquite 635 industrial park on LBJ Freeway as location for a new artillery casing plant. General Dynamics has selected a 240,011-square-foot building in the industrial park as the home of a new artillery casings plant. The industrial park has 555,000 square feet if GD needs to grow.

The Dallas News reports that General Dynamics intends to process raw materials into artillery casings that will be shipped to another facility for assembly into munitions. The plant would not be storing explosives or assembling munitions, just making the shells. The manufacturing facility will produce 20,000 units per month.

The city of Mesquite expects the plant to employ about 50 salaried employees and 75 to 100 hourly employees.
