General Capital Selected for $18M Racine Redevelopment
General Capital Group has been selected by the city of Racine, WI to redevelop an abandoned plant into affordable and market-rate apartments. The Fox Point, WI-based contractor will spearhead rehab of the former J.I. Case Plow Works plant, at 615 Marquette St., into 82 apartments, along with studio and gallery space. The project is expected to cost approximately $18.4 million.
General Capital will be working with Racine city officials on a plan, which could take anywhere from six to 12 months. The work will include investigating environmental contamination on the site, as well as building structural issues. The developer will also seek a federal historic designation for the building to secure restoration tax credits.
