GEICO Selects Development Team to Revamp Chevy Chase Campus
Bethesda-based developer EYA and real estate firm JM Zell Partners of Washington, D.C., will partner on the redevelopment of insurance company Geico’s corporate campus.
The insurance company has entered an agreement to sell the site to EYA, which specializes in townhomes and will lead the project at the 26-acre site at 5260 Western Ave. The selection of the developers is a major step for the project, which is expected to transform the campus into a transit-oriented development with up to 520 residential units. Of the total proposed residences, 184 are townhomes, and 336 are multifamily apartments in three buildings.
EYA and JM Zell are expected to host an in-person community meeting before submitting plans to the Montgomery County planning department. GEICO announced a year ago that the company would vacate its longtime headquarters in Chevy Chase and relocate to a trophy office at 7272 Wisconsin Ave. in Bethesda, reported the Washington Business Journal.
