GE Sets Groundbreaking for $200M Boston HQ
April 5, 2017
General Electric Co. plans to break ground in May 2017 on its $200-million headquarters building in Boston’s Fort Point section. The architecturally-distinctive structure will fuse together two existing brick buildings, with a new 12-story building that incorporates a solar panel system that looks like a giant sail.
The 390,000-square-foot campus is located off Necco Court near A Street. The company relocated last summer from Fairfield, CT to temporary offices on Farnsworth Street, while its new corporate office was being designed and built.
Planned improvements include retrofitting and connecting the existing brick buildings, owned by MassDevelopment, to the new building owned by GE. Renovation work is expected to be completed by mid-2018 on the older buildings, while the new structure is slated to deliver in early 2019.
