GE Readies to Shut Down Channelview Operations

General Electric will shut down its turbine manufacturing operations at its East Houston complex in Channelview, TX. The company will keep the plant open to service turbines, which will maintain some office jobs for engineering and projects operations.

Approximately 500 people work at the facility at 16415 Jacintoport Blvd. GE did not disclose how many jobs would be cut.

The extended energy downturn prompted GE’s decision. The company, which sends its gas turbines to the Channelview plant, indicated demand for small turbines used by oil and gas industries for exploration and production has been declining. Plans are to move some of the work to other locations, which were undisclosed.
