Gaylord Rockies to receive major expansion

Gaylord Rockies Planning Major Addition

Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center has turned in plans to expand the hotel by adding 450 rooms and a 47,000-square-foot indoor addition to its water park. The extra rooms would increase the hotel’s capacity to 1,950. The hotel, located at 6700 N. Gaylord Rockies Blvd. in Aurora, is not far from Denver International Airport.

The proposed room and water park expansion would take place on a parking lot southeast of the hotel.

The expansion would reduce the Gaylord’s parking space count to 2,376 and remove nearly 300 self-parking spots.

The new water park, Soundwaves, will sit to the west of a new guestroom tower and connect to Gaylord’s current indoor pool building. It will be designed like the waterpark at Gaylord Opryland in Nashville, Tennessee.

A new concourse is expected to feature a retail space for Soundwaves merchandise, a coffee shop with a terrace and some seating. The 85-acre hotel property is owned by Ryman Hospitality Properties, Inc., and part of the Marriott Bonvoy brand.
