Vestavia, AL-based Medical Properties Trust, Inc. founder Emmett McLean — who functions as EVP, COO and secretary — will retire from the company effective in September 2023 after more than 20 years of service.

McLean is one of three founders who began Medical Properties Trust, Inc. in 2003 as self-advised real estate investment trust to acquire and develop net-leased hospital facilities. He oversaw asset management and underwriting, human resources, and IT departments for much of his time with and has also been instrumental in employee recruitment and retention programs. McLean has served as chair of the firm’s charity committee since its inception.

“Beyond his organizational and management skills, Emmett is a great man with a servant’s heart,” said Edward Aldag, Jr., Medical Properties Trust, Inc.’s chairman, president and CEO. “He delights in giving back to his community and his contributions to Birmingham and its surrounding areas are immeasurable.”

Medical Properties Trust, Inc. owns 444 facilities and approximately 44,000 licensed beds in 10 countries and across four continents.

About Lisa McDuffie

Lisa McDuffie arrives at ConnectCRE via REALTOR® world, where she served for nearly two decades as communications director for one of the nation’s largest REALTOR® organizations. She supported two membership-elected presidents who were commercial real estate practitioners, and managed the communications initiatives of the organization’s commercial special interest group. When not following the latest commercial real estate news, Lisa is zeroed in on her charismatic off-the-track thoroughbred as she makes the transition from an utterly failed racehorse to a lovely show hunter.
