Former Head of CDOT Returns as Principal to Studio Gang Architects
Former Chicago Department of Transportation Commissioner Gia Biagi will start a new role in charge of planning and urban design efforts at the renown Chicago architecture firm Studio Gang, reported the Sun-Times.
She returns to Studio Gang in a newly-created role, as Principal of Urbanism, where she’ll lead planning and urban design work nationally. Biagi previously worked for the firm from 2015 to 2019, before she was hired as transportation commissioner by former Mayor Lightfoot.
“As commissioner of the Chicago Department of Transportation, Gia Biagi has been instrumental in implementing transportation systems and critical public infrastructure that improves neighborhoods, connects residents, and promotes safe and sustainable mobility,” said Mayor Brandon Johnson in a press release.
Founded by Jeanne Gang, Studio Gang has earned recognition for designing iconic Chicago skyscrapers, and the firm has won numerous awards, including the 2016 Architizer A+ Firm of the Year Award and the 2013 National Design Award from the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
