Ford Motor Company Picks Atlanta’s $200M 8West for Research and Innovation Center

The Atlantic Companies and Ford Motor Company have agreed on a 15,400-square-foot lease at the 8West building in the West Midtown neighborhood of Atlanta, GA. The space will serve as a research and innovation center (with a focus on software and technology development) for Ford.

Stephen Clifton and Zach Wooten of Transwestern brokered the lease on behalf of The Atlantic Companies, while Katelyn Fabian, Ryan Hudson and Kevin Carroll of CBRE represented Ford. (Fabian is no longer with CBRE.)

8West is a Class A, 200,000-square-foot mixed-use development at 8th Street and Howell Mill Road in Atlanta’s West Midtown neighborhood. The 2020-completed asset sits adjacent to Georgia Tech and features an 80’x40’ exterior mural.

The development offers 180,000 square feet of office space, 20,000 square feet of retail space and 264 apartment units. It marks an investment of almost $200 million by the developers.

“We are excited to join the vibrant Atlanta innovation community,” said Jim Buczkowski, executive director for Ford research, advanced engineering. “This location allows us to work closely with universities, including HBCUs, to develop a diverse tech talent pipeline.”
