Florida Panthers, Broward County Exploring Entertainment District

Broward County has submitted plans that could transform the 154-acre area surrounding the Florida Panthers’ home into a massive 24/7 mixed-use destination in Sunrise. The Panthers say they’re in the early stages of discussions with Broward County and Sunrise. A Sunrise City Commission will consider the proposal next week.

The proposal could include 1,400 apartments, 600 hotel rooms, 1.62 million square feet of office/education space and 300,000 square feet of commercial space. Much of the development replaces portions of the current parking lots. It’s not known if the Amerant Bank Arena will be part of the transformation.

Major sports stadiums and arenas across the United States are increasingly paired with mixed-use entertainment districts. Prominent examples include The Battery Atlanta at Truist Park, Ballpark Village at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, and L.A. Live across from where the Los Angeles Lakers play basketball.
