Five California Food Hall Concepts Among Top 20 Nationally
Cushman & Wakefield released its inaugural Food Halls of America report and video, which tracked the aggressive growth of food-centered retail. Five California projects made the list of the top 20 food hall concepts in the nation including:
- the Grand Central Market and the Original Farmer’s Market in Los Angeles
- the Ferry Building and Market on Market in San Francisco
- Liberty Public Market in San Diego
The report notes that in the first nine months of 2016, food hall growth increased by 37.1% year over year, primarily fueled by consumer desire for quality and authenticity.
Cushman & Wakefield’s Carter Magnin points out that L.A.’s Grand Central Market and the Original Farmer’s Market are “both iconic and historic projects that people feel are genuine and authentic. But they’re getting a modern update with the new tenants and buildouts while still staying true to that collaborative community experience. In this modern day and age of technology, there’s still a yearning for people to experience the past.”
