First Senior Housing Co-op Opens in Kansas City Metro
Village Cooperative of Shawnee, a senior-housing cooperative, has opened; the first such project to do so in the Kansas City, KS metro area. The property is at 12830 Johnson Dr. in Shawnee, and is geared toward adults age 55 and older who want a maintenance-free lifestyle, combined with the financial benefits of home ownership.
In cooperatives, members control all aspects of ownership, including hiring landscaping and property maintenance services. Village Cooperative of Shawnee offers 53 one-and two-bedroom homes, ranging from 876-1,602 square feet.
Minnesota-based Real Estate Equities Development LLC was the developer. There are 24 Village Cooperatives either operating, under construction, or scheduled for construction in the next year throughout the Midwest.
