First Phase of $3.5B Schuylkill Yards Project Begins
Brandywine Realty Trust and Drexel University broke ground on the first phase of the mixed-used, master-planned Schuylkill Yards Innovation Community in West Philadelphia’s University City District. The initial phase of the $3.5-billion development, known as Drexel Square, will consist of a 1.3-acre park at the corner of 30th and Market streets. Also included will be 4.6 acres that will hold educational facilities, research laboratories, corporate offices, residential and retail spaces, and hotels.
Later phases of the project will focus on redevelopment of the former Bulletin Building, along with development of two towers at 3003 and 3025 JFK Blvd. Over the next two decades, Schuylkill Yards will offer 14 acres of repurposed buildings, new high-rises and a network of public spaces for community gatherings.
