First Look at Google Village in San Jose
The vision for San Jose’s Google Village is beginning to take shape within a 240-acre downtown development area. Last week, Mountain View-based Google shared its first look of the proposed transit-oriented project at the Station Area Advisory Group, which is providing official input regarding Google’s proposed development.
Early plans for the 8-million-square-foot campus depict a catalytic project that aims to connect new offices, housing, retail and restaurants with surrounding neighborhoods. The new sketches show an innovation loop, a social and cultural walk, a farmer’s market in front of Diridon Station, as well as numerous open spaces. New experiences will be created with nearby Los Gatos Creek and Guadalupe River.
The transit village envisioned by Google, which has been acquiring property within the area in collaboration with a Trammell Crow Co. affiliate, is expected to house as many as 20,000 Google employees.
