Fifth Third Closing 44 Branches in Chicago, Suburbs

Three North Side locations are among 44 Chicago-area bank branches slated to close next month as Fifth Third Bank’s acquisition of MB Financial is finalized. Cincinnati-based Fifth Third announced the locations on Tuesday, although it had said months ago that it would close several Chicago-area branches as a cost savings.

The three North Side branches slated to go dark on July 9 and 10 are located at 644 W. Diversey Pkwy., 1624 W. Division St. and 2934 N. Milwaukee Ave. They’re among eight Chicago locations announced for closure, with most of the others in the city’s suburbs.

In providing a roster of the Fifth Third/MB Chicago-area branches that will be shuttered, Crain’s Chicago Business reported that U.S. Bank will close eight this month after shuttering 13 earlier this year. Bank of America has targeted 16 Chicago-area branches to close in July.
