Fiesta Mart Acquisition Will Mean Largest Hispanic Grocer

Grupo Commercial Chedraui S.A.B. de C.V. subsidiary Bodega Latina Corp. is acquiring Houston-headquartered grocery chain Fiesta Mart LLC. The $300-million transaction is anticipated to close at the beginning of Q2 2018 and will lead to the largest Hispanic-focused grocery chain in the United States. Fiesta stores will continue operating under their own brand name.

Chedraui is acquiring Fiesta Mart from Acon Investments, a Washington, DC private equity firm. Acon acquired Fiesta in April 2015. Fiesta Mart was founded in Houston in 1972 by Donald Bonham and O.C. Mendenhall.

“The acquisition of Fiesta allows us to meaningfully expand into Texas via an established, well-known supermarket operator,” said Carlos Smith with Bodega Latina. Chedraui currently operates 60 grocery stores under the El Super brand name.
