Federal Board Recommends Sale of Coast Guard Building on Boston Waterfront
An eight-story waterfront building at 408 Atlantic Ave. on the edge of Boston’s Financial District is one of 11 federal properties nationwide that a government board recommends selling. The Public Buildings Reform Board made its recommendations in a report Thursday that proposed solutions to the chronic underfunding of federal building stock.
The circa-1918 Coast Guard building, as it is known, was previously cited as a surplus property during the Biden administration and early in the current administration. Left off the list in the new report are other federal buildings in Boston that were included as potential sale targets in the early months of the Trump administration, reported the Boston Business Journal.
However, the board plans to analyze the potential to sell three local federal assets totaling about 2.6 million square feet: the JFK building at Government Center, the O’Neill building and the John W. McCormack Building.
