Family Christian Stores Closing Down

Family Christian LLC, a faith-based retail company headquartered in Grand Rapids, MI, is shutting down. This means that 240 locations in 36 states will also be shuttered. The book, music and religious supply seller, which has been in business for 85 years, said it was closing because of falling sales and changing shopper behaviors.

The company had filed for bankruptcy protection in 2015, with a plan to sell all of its assets. “Despite improvements in product assortment and the store experience, sales continued to decline,” said company president Chuck Bengochea. “In addition, we were not able to get the pricing and terms we needed from our vendors to successfully compete in the market.”

The timing of individual store closings will vary, depending on the length of time of liquidation sales. Stores will remain open until the liquidation process is complete.
