Failed Redevelopment Plans Leads Brewery to the Auction Block

The Lone Star Brewery, which developers hoped to renovate into a $300 million mixed-use project, is in foreclosure, and scheduled for a public auction on the steps of the Bexar County Courthouse the week of Nov. 6, 2017. Lone Star Brewery Development Inc., owner of the 35-acre property on San Antonio’s south side, defaulted on a $7.4 million loan to NCC Financial.

Located at 600 Lone Star Blvd., the brewery has undergone at least four failed revitalization projects since shutting down in the mid-1990s. The latest mixed-use plan ground to a halt when retail developer CBL & Associates Properties withdrew from a venture with Aqualand Development of San Marcos, TX. The partnership fell apart after CBL received an anonymous letter accusing Aqualand’s Mark Smith of having spent two years in prison, and filing “nuisance” lawsuits against former business partners.
