Facilities Combine Senior Housing Project, Library
It’s a senior housing project. It’s a public library. No, it’s both.
Evergreen Real Estate Group recently broke ground on two North Side projects that combine senior housing apartments with branches of the Chicago Public Library.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the Chicago Housing Authority and the library are partnering with the developer to build the properties, each of which will feature 44 senior apartments and a library within the same walls. The unit mix at the two buildings will be 30 public housing apartments and 14 affordable units.
The Independence Apartments and Independence Branch library will be built at 4022 W. Irving Park Blvd. John Ronan Architects is designing the facilities. The Northtown Apartments and Northtown Branch library is rising at 6800 N. Western Ave. Perkins+Will is the designer.
