Facebook Tripling Size of Fort Worth Data Center
In July, 2015, Facebook Inc. broke ground on a new, three-building, 750,000-square-foot data center at Alliance in North Fort Worth. A little more than a year later, the social media giant announced that its data center will now be a complex consisting of five buildings totaling close to 2.5 million square feet, and that its Fort Worth investment could top $1 billion.
The reason for the expansion is due to an increase in users, and an increase in bandwidth that the Facebook users require. More people are using more apps, and video is becoming more popular, said KC Timmons, site manager for the Fort Worth data center. The first data center is scheduled to come online early next year. Facebook has started construction on its second building, which will be ready by the end of next year.
