FAA Clears the Track for Port Authority’s AirTrain Line to and from LaGuardia

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey on Tuesday got the go-ahead to proceed with its longtime plans to construct an AirTrain line to and from LaGuardia Airport. Tuesday’s decision by the Federal Aviation Administration means the Port Authority will now be able to submit a future application for funding under the FAA’s Passenger Facility Charge program.

“LaGuardia Airport is the only major airport on the East Coast without a rail mass transit link, and it is way past time for that embarrassment to end,” said Rick Cotton, the Port Authority’s executive director.

At the Real Estate Board of New York, president James Whelan said, “We are pleased to see the vision for the AirTrain become a reality, and we look forward to continued partnership with the Cuomo Administration and the Biden Administration on large-scale infrastructure projects throughout New York over the months to come.”
